Common Opener Problems We Fix
- The door won't close, or it reverses right away
- The motor runs but the door doesn't move
- The remote or keypad stopped working
- The opener strains, stops partway or sounds like a blender full of gravel
- The Wi-Fi or myQ app won't connect
A door that won't close is usually the safety sensors near the floor. They get bumped, dirty or blinded by the afternoon sun. A motor that runs without moving the door is often a stripped gear.
And sometimes the opener isn't the problem at all. A broken spring or worn rollers make the opener lift weight it was never built to lift, so we check the whole door every time. Putting a new opener on a door with a bad spring just means buying two openers.

Repair or Replace?
We'll give you a straight answer. Repair usually makes sense when the opener is fairly new and the fix is one part, like a gear, a sensor or a circuit board. Replacement makes sense when the opener is 10 to 15 years old, parts are hard to find, or you're ready for something quieter with a battery backup, Wi-Fi or a camera.
If a circuit board is the likely culprit, our board replacement comes with a 1-year warranty that covers the diagnosis, ordering the part, the return trip and the install.

The Openers We Recommend
We install LiftMaster and Chamberlain. They're reliable, parts are easy to get, and they work with the myQ app on your phone. We're happy to service other brands, but for a new opener we usually point people toward these two over brands like Genie, based on how they've held up in the garages we work in.
A few popular setups:
- Belt drive with a DC motor. Very quiet. Great if there's a bedroom over the garage.
- Chain drive with a DC motor. Tough and budget-friendly for a detached garage.
- Wi-Fi models with LED lights and a camera. Check whether you closed the door from the grocery store.
Every new opener comes with a remote, safety sensors and a wall control. We haul away the old unit and program everything before we leave. Opener warranties run from 4 years to lifetime on the motor, depending on the model.
Remotes, Keypads & Wall Controls
Lost a remote, or tired of the keypad that only works on the third try? We carry LiftMaster remotes, wireless keypads and universal remotes, and we'll program them on the spot.

Garage Door Opener FAQs
Why does my garage door open but not close?
Nine times out of ten it's the safety sensors near the floor. Make sure nothing is blocking them and that the little lights on both sides are solid, not blinking. If that doesn't do it, give us a call.
Can you install an opener I already bought?
Yes. Installing a customer-supplied opener comes with a 90-day labor warranty. Any extra parts it needs are additional.
How long does a new opener installation take?
About an hour, including removing the old unit and programming your remotes and app.
Do you work on Genie or Craftsman openers?
Yes, we diagnose and repair them. If one needs replacing, we'll walk you through the options. Most people end up choosing LiftMaster or Chamberlain.
Do you offer free estimates?
